Requirements
- The WPML plugin (WPML Multilingual CMS + WPML Translation Management) with at least two active languages. WPML is a commercial plugin from OnTheGoSystems and is not included here.
- An OpenAI API key with billing enabled. Translation requests are billed by OpenAI directly to you.
External services
This plugin sends content to the OpenAI API in order to translate it. Nothing is sent anywhere else, and no data is sent to the plugin author.
- Service: OpenAI API (
https://api.openai.com/v1/chat/completions). - What is sent: the text of the field being translated (post title, content, excerpt, custom field or term name), the source and target language, and the translation instructions you configured. Requests are authenticated with the API key you enter in the plugin settings.
- When it is sent: only when a translation job is processed, either from the WPML queue, from the plugin queue, or when you re-translate a single item.
- Provider terms: OpenAI Terms of Use, OpenAI Privacy Policy, OpenAI API data usage.
No translation request is made until you save an API key, and the plugin makes no outbound request on activation.
