Plugin Description

BimBeau Privacy Analytics provides a fully functional Free, self-hosted analytics plugin for WordPress. It helps site owners follow visits, page views, traffic sources, devices, country-level geolocation, internal searches, 404 errors, visitors, and real-time activity directly from the WordPress dashboard.

Analytics data is stored in the local WordPress database. The plugin is designed around privacy-conscious analytics workflows, with a base tracker intended for consent-exemption conditions and an enriched tracker that can require prior consent depending on local rules and site configuration.

BimBeau Privacy Analytics does not make a website GDPR-compliant by itself. Site owners remain responsible for their legal basis, privacy policy, CMP configuration, consent records, and any additional compliance requirements that apply to their website.

Free plugin behavior:

BimBeau Privacy Analytics on WordPress.org is the complete Free plugin. Its Free analytics features run without a license, payment, quota, time-limited evaluation, or remote validation. All analytics panels available to the Free edition appear automatically, with no local locked controls or placeholders. The package may load Freemius for account, pricing, upgrade, support, uninstall, and package identity flows. A separate Pro edition is available from the author outside WordPress.org and replaces the Free plugin when installed.

Pro edition:

BimBeau Privacy Analytics Pro is a separate edition designed for users who need more detailed analysis, export workflows, event tracking, app-like access to their analytics, or admin customization. It is not required to use the Free plugin.

Depending on the active license, site configuration, consent setup, and available analytics data, Pro can add:

Analytics exports for supported reports.
Page Details for deeper page-level analysis.
City geolocation reports and map markers when usable city data is available.
Event tracking and event configuration.
Content analytics in WordPress content lists and the editor.
An installable stats app for site analytics.

The WordPress.org Free package does not embed Pro-only report surfaces as local feature locks or disabled placeholders. Upgrade links point to the separate Pro edition hosted outside WordPress.org.

Consent and enriched tracking:

The enriched tracker is exposed as a CMP-targetable script:

When enriched analytics require consent, configure your CMP to block this script before consent and release it only after the visitor accepts the Analytics / Statistics category. BimBeau Privacy Analytics does not provide a consent banner, does not decide whether consent is granted, and does not store consent records.

Debug logging:

Debug mode is the authoritative plugin switch for diagnostic logging. BimBeau Privacy Analytics writes diagnostics only when Debug mode is enabled and a WordPress debug log destination (WP_DEBUG + WP_DEBUG_LOG) or an explicit BimBeau Privacy Analytics safe sink is available.

External services:

BimBeau GeoIP Database Service

The optional local GeoIP database provides country-level geolocation reports while lookups remain inside the WordPress installation. Automatic database downloads are disabled by default. Plugin activation, opening the dashboard, and opening the configuration assistant do not contact this service.

The service is contacted only after an administrator clicks the manual database install/update action (including the explicit assistant action), or after an administrator later enables an automatic update frequency. It receives the WordPress server IP address as seen by the service and a technical User-Agent. The updater User-Agent does not include the site URL. Local IP lookups do not transmit visitor IP addresses to BimBeau.

Referrer favicon retrieval

Referrer favicons are an optional visual feature. They are disabled until an administrator enables them in the first configuration assistant or General settings. When enabled, the WordPress server can contact a referrer domain to retrieve an icon; the domain can see the server IP address and a generic technical User-Agent. The User-Agent contains no site URL.

The administrator browser never requests a favicon from a referrer domain. The plugin validates and stores only ICO, PNG, JPEG, WebP, or strictly sanitized passive SVG files in local WordPress uploads storage and returns only that local URL to the admin interface. Safe static inline SVG styles are converted to direct presentation attributes before storage; active content, unknown style properties, and external resources are rejected. The feature can be disabled at any time; reports then use a local generic icon and make no favicon requests.

MaxMind

MaxMind API mode is disabled until an administrator manually selects it and supplies a MaxMind Account ID and License Key. A lookup is sent only while that configured mode is resolving an IP address. MaxMind receives the IP address being resolved, the account credentials in an Authorization header, and a technical User-Agent containing only the plugin name and version. The User-Agent contains no site URL or domain. Local database mode does not use the MaxMind API and does not send visitor IP addresses to MaxMind. Freemius

The Free package may load the Freemius SDK for account, pricing, upgrade, support, uninstall, and package identity flows. Free analytics features do not require a license, payment, quota, time-limited evaluation, or remote feature validation.

Freemius communications occur when an administrator opens Freemius-managed account, pricing, upgrade, support, or uninstall screens, opts in to Freemius usage tracking, activates or manages a paid license, submits a support request, or confirms an uninstall reason. Depending on the chosen action, Freemius may receive plugin and SDK versions, WordPress and PHP versions, site URL, site language, administrator account identity and email, license and subscription identifiers, feature usage or diagnostic details included in a support request, and the selected uninstall reason.

The complete build requires Node.js 24 (the package.json engine is >=24 <25), npm, PHP, WP-CLI, gettext with msgmerge, msgfmt, and msgattrib, and the Composer development dependencies used by the validation suite. Install the PHP and JavaScript dependencies, then rebuild generated admin and translation assets from the repository root:

Generate the reproducible WordPress.org Free ZIP with:

webpack.config.js writes intermediate compiled assets to `build/`; the packaging scripts place the distributable files under `assets/` in the ZIP. The WordPress.org ZIP contains the compiled runtime, translations, notices, and runtime dependencies; it does not contain `src/`. Human-readable sources and every referenced build script remain available in the public GitHub repository. For `BBPA_PACKAGE_TARGET=free`, the source entries and generation steps are:

assets/js/admin.js is compiled from the Free entry src/admin/index.free.js and its imported modules under src/admin/.
assets/js/style-admin.js, assets/css/style-admin.css, and the RTL/admin CSS aliases are Webpack outputs of the Free style entry src/admin/style.free.scss and its Sass imports. style-admin.js is the JavaScript loader emitted for that style entry, not a hand-authored source file.
Free builds resolve edition-sensitive admin imports through the aliases in webpack.config.js. Those aliases select the human-readable implementations under src/admin/free-stubs/ and prevent Premium implementations from entering the Free bundle.
assets/js/bbpa-essential-tracker.js and assets/js/bbpa-advanced-tracker.js are the human-readable tracker sources in the public repository. scripts/build-plugin-dist.sh copies them into the staged package and scripts/minify-trackers.js minifies the staged copies; the repository source files remain readable.

The npm run build command rebuilds intermediate admin and i18n output. The npm run build:wordpress-org-free command exports the public Free source tree, compiles it with the Free entries and aliases, stages only explicitly allowlisted runtime roots and files, minifies only the staged tracker copies, validates the generated ZIP itself, and writes the ZIP and provenance record to dist/.
