ICON SL – Smart AI Search is a search tool for WordPress websites by ICON SL.
It provides a complete local WordPress search experience without any API key. Site owners can optionally connect the ICON SL service to add AI-powered semantic results.

External Services
This plugin can connect to ICON SL services to provide optional account management, API key setup, usage information, indexing, and AI-powered semantic search results. These services are not required for local WordPress search.

When configured with an API key, the API indexes only public, published, searchable site content and processes search queries, returning semantically ranked results to your visitors. Without an API key, searches are handled locally by WordPress and this API is not used for visitor search queries.
Data sent to this API:
- Search queries — When an API key is configured and a visitor uses semantic search, the query text and the configured result count (
k) are sent to the API to retrieve relevant results. Results are filtered again in WordPress before display so only currently public/searchable posts can be returned. Without an API key, visitor searches use local WordPress search and are not sent to this API. - API key — Sent in the
X-Api-Keyrequest header on every API call to authenticate your account. - Site URL — Sent in the
X-Site-Urlrequest header to identify your site within the service. - Content data (indexing) — When an API key is configured, during admin setup, during scheduled or manual reindexing, and when public content is saved, public post IDs, titles, content, public URLs, modification dates, and source type are sent to the API to build or refresh the optional semantic search index. Private, draft, pending, future, trashed, auto-draft, password-protected, and non-public/non-searchable post types are excluded.
- PDF attachment data — PDF files are uploaded only when the attachment is public/searchable or attached to public searchable content. Private/protected media, uploads attached to private/draft/password-protected content, and local server file paths are not sent as API fields.
- Index cleanup requests — When content is deleted or is no longer public/searchable, the plugin sends a server-side delete request for that post ID so stale remote records are removed from the semantic index.
- Usage/account request data — When an administrator loads usage information or applies API settings, the saved API key, site URL, and relevant non-secret search configuration values are sent to the API.
This plugin does not send database credentials, admin-only settings, private metadata, API keys in frontend JavaScript, or personal data about site visitors to the external service. When optional semantic search is used, only the search query text is transmitted for each visitor search.

The admin screen links to this service so administrators can get an API key and manage their plan. These links are opened only when an administrator clicks them. WordPress sends the normal browser request data for a clicked external link, such as IP address, browser user agent, and referring page, according to the external site’s own policies.
