Plugin Description
Promptwatch connects your WordPress site to your Promptwatch project. It is the official companion plugin for the Promptwatch content and AI-visibility platform, and it does three things:
- Publish content — Content you create in Promptwatch is published to your site as standard WordPress posts. Re-publishing the same document updates the same post instead of creating a duplicate, and promoting a draft to live keeps your edits and the original publish date.
- Visitor analytics (optional) — When you turn it on, the plugin adds a small analytics tag to your public pages so page views are attributed to your Promptwatch project. It is off by default and can skip logged-in administrators.
- AI-crawler logs (optional) — When you turn it on, the plugin records metadata about public requests that reach WordPress (for example visits from AI crawlers) and forwards them to Promptwatch in the background. It is off by default and requires a Promptwatch API key.
How connecting works
There is no Promptwatch password or API key to paste in for publishing. In Settings Promptwatch you generate a one-time sync token, then paste your site URL and that token into your project’s WordPress setup screen in Promptwatch. Promptwatch verifies the site and stores the connection. Your token is stored on the site only as a salted hash — never in plain text.
Using this plugin requires a Promptwatch account. Visitor analytics and AI-crawler logs are optional features you explicitly enable.
External services
This plugin connects to the Promptwatch service. What is sent, and when, depends on which features you enable:

Content publishing (required for the core feature). Promptwatch’s servers write content into your site over authenticated REST routes (
promptwatch/v1/sync,promptwatch/v1/publish,promptwatch/v1/config,promptwatch/v1/options), authorized by the sync token you generate. This is an inbound connection: the plugin receives content; it does not send your content out./optionsonly returns this site’s categories and users who can edit posts, so Promptwatch can show them in the connection settings. -
Visitor analytics —
ingest.promptwatch.com(only when you enable “Visitor analytics”). The plugin adds a small script to public pages. That script loadshttps://ingest.promptwatch.com/js/client.min.jsin the visitor’s browser and sends analytics events (such as page views), tagged with your Promptwatch project ID, to Promptwatch. No analytics are sent while this feature is off. -
AI-crawler logs —
logs.promptwatch.com(only when you enable “Crawler logs” and set an API key). For public requests that reach WordPress, the plugin collects request metadata — timestamp, request path and method, response status, content type, user agent, referrer, client IP, and hostname — and sends it in batches tohttps://logs.promptwatch.com/event, authorized by your Promptwatch API key. Nothing is sent while this feature is off or no key is set. -
Featured images (during content publishing). When a document published from Promptwatch includes a featured image, the plugin downloads that image from the URL Promptwatch sends (a token-authenticated sync request) and stores it in your media library as the post thumbnail. No image is fetched outside of a publish.
